  • 04/05/2014 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS The Armidale Rifle Club held a two stage match which was fired from 300yds on Sunday afternoon. The weather was bitterly cold with very strong Westerly winds. It was a challenge for all shooters. In F-Class Standard B grade Derry Crisp won with 114.4 In Target rifle match Stuart Cleghorn won with 94.5. and Richard Seery won F Class open with a score of 89.0. This weekend clashes with the Spring Ridge Open Prize Meeting and there may not be sufficient members to participate in the 700yd match. There will be no match for 11th May 2014 as its Mothers Day, all members wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all Mums. Normal matches commence at 12noon. A small field of four competitors took part in the match this was due to the long weekend with a number of the members attending the two day open prize meeting at Wingham.   • 22/06/2014 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS The Armidale Rifle Club held a two stage match from 700yds at Wallamumbi Rifle Range on Sunday Afternoon. It was a great rollup with 11 competitors attending which made a great day for all.Both of the matchs saw sudden gusts of wind, which made the matchs quite difficult. The top scoring competitors for the afternoon saw Stuart Cleghorn with 95.6 in Target rifle and Libby Martin scoring 106.3 in F Class standard rifle.   • 29/06/2014 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS On Sunday afternoon Armidale Rifle Club members competed in the last competition for the 2013 – 2014 year. The competition was a double match at 300yds. There was a very strong cold westerly consistently changing in velocity, this was a challenge to every competitor. Derry Crisp top scored in the F Class standard rifle match with a score of 116.7. Target rifle match was won by Stuart Cleghorn with a score of 92.6. Wind conditions were hard to pick and ever changing, this resulted in lost points for all competitors. Nine competitors took part in both matches.   • 10/08/2014 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS On Sunday afternoon the Armidale Rifle Club held a two stage match which was fire from 500yds. Wind conditions were hard to predict with short sharp gusts dropping away to nothing. Four competitors took part in both matches. The Target Rifle match was won by Stuart Cleghorn with a score of 97.6. Stuart scored a possible in the second stage 50/50 with 4, a marvellous effort. The F-Class Standard match was won by Derry Crisp scoring 113.4.   • 17/08/2014 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS On Sunday afternoon a small number of members competed in a two stage match was fired from 600yds in westerly wind conditions which kept scores low for the afternoon’s competitions. Robert Thrift top scored F Class standard rifle shooting 106.3 and Stuart Cleghorn won the target rifle match with a score of 90-6. Results: F Class standard rifle match: Robert Thrift 51.2 55.1 106.3 Ian Moffatt 50.0 53.2 103.2 Target rifle match: Stuart Cleghorn 44-3 46-3 90-6 John McClenaghan 44-0 43-1 87-1 Armidale Rifle Club members David Willis and Derry Crisp competed in the Queensland Rifle Association 124th Queens Series which was held at Belmont Rifle Range from the 12th to 16th August 2014. Both David and Derry competed in the F Class standard rifle B grade matches. In the Duncan lead up series David Willis was placed second with a score 318.12. In the Queens series which were eight matches over three days of shooting at ranges from 300yds to 1,000yds. Derry Crisp was placed fifth in the F Class standard rifle B grade aggregate scoring 426.15 and David Willis placed tenth with 420.15 points. This was a great effort by both members. Members are reminded that the RSVP for the Annual Presentation Dinner is due by the 20th August 2014 to the Club Secretary Robert Thrift. Reading the mirage and wind conditions was a real challenge, all members lost plenty of points, but we all had a good day. In F-Class Standard was won by Ian Moffatt with a score of 110.1. A gusty westerly wind ranging from 20 to 30KM per hour with a changing mirage made for a trying day. In F Class standard, Robert Thrift scored 102.1. Don Foster produced a brilliant score in Target Rifle scoring a possible 50/50 with 2 for the first stage and only dropped two points in the second stage, finishing with a top score of 98.4, well done Don. There was a real match between Derry Crisp and Richard Seery (Richard using Derry’s rifle scored 108.7). The matches comprised 1 x 500 yards and 2 x 600 yards. The conditions were tricky with mirage and short burst of light wind. A great day was had by all; even the weather was a little forgiving. The aim of the competition was to award prises to both Target Rifle and F-Class for the competitor that shot the most super centres. In Target Rifle Andrew Cameron was the winner with three super centres and a score of 53.3. In F-Class Standard there was a tie With Stuart Cleghorn scoring 57.2 and Derry Crisp scoring 66.2 The overall winner In Target Rifle was Andrew Cameron scoring 53.3. This has been the worst day yet for competition, most of us had trouble in reading the ever changing wind conditions it’s velocity and coupled with a very strong mirage which also caused havoc.   • 31/01/2016 THE ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS On Sunday the 31st January 2016 eleven competitors competed in our 300 yard competition. The first tryout of our new Hexta-002 electronic target, everything went smoothly with no major problems. Many thanks go to Ted Boreham from Hexta Systems for installing our new electronic target. The day was not kind to all competitors with constant wind changes and plenty of mirage to contend with. In the F-Class Standard A Grade Derry Crisp won on a count back with David Willis with both scoring 115.8. In the F-Class Standard B Grade Sherylyn Crisp won with a score of 111.4, an excellent effort considering the conditions and that she had never shot out of a fullbore rifle before, well done Sherylyn. As usual tricky sharp wind gusts coupled with changing mirage conditions. As well as individual point scoring, a two man team’s match was formed with Bob and Ian taking on Stuart and Derry. Bob and Ian were the victors scoring 227.7 while Stuart and Derry scored 224.8. In the F-Class Standard B Grade Derry crisp won with the top score of 118.8.   • 14/08/2016 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS Sunday the 14th August 2016. Today we had nine competitors all using our electronic target with great success, with only a little hiccup with a battery. The conditions were not kind to us all day with the usual mirage and constant wind changes. Hats off to Stuart today in F-Class standard he trashed us all with a very impressive off rifle score of 115.6. He also won the handy cap event with a score of 120.6, just in front of Libby and Luke each with a score of 120.3. This was our second handy cap shoot with all handy caps now starting to work out fairly. In target rifle David Good won off rifle with a score of 86.3. David also won the handy cap with a score of 95.0/3.   • 21/08/2016 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS Sunday the 21st August 2016. There were seven members competing today from the 500 yard mound. The mirage and wind changes kept everybody on their toes but all handled the conditions quite well. In target rifle Don Foster won the off rifle with a score of 92.2. David Good won the handy cap with a score of 97.3. In the F-Class Standard second stage Ian Moffatt scored a possible 60/60 with7. This was an extraordinary performance well done Ian. Overall in the F-Class standard stages there was a great tussle between Don Foster and Derry Crisp, they were neck and neck all day both scoring 117/120. However the last shot of the day from Don was a super centre which put him in the lead (needles do I have to say he used Derry’s rifle). Don won the off rifle with a score of 117.12 and also won the handy cap with 120.12. The mirage and wind changes were consistently changing, especially the mirage with a constant flow then revving up quickly which caught a lot of competitors by surprise. We also held a two man team competition with Ian and Billy against Bob and Stuart. The victors were Ian and Billy with a score of 213.4, with Bob and Stuart scoring 208.4. There were no target rifle members present.   • 16/10/2016 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS A 300 yard practice run was held on Sunday 16th October 2016. This was to try out our new Hexta electronic target after it was installed. As there was a working bee scheduled only three members brought their rifles. It was a tricky day with fast moving mirage and gusty winds. In F-Class Standard there was a great tussle between Don Foster and Derry Crisp (Don using Derry’s rifle). It came down to the very last shot and Derry immerged the victor after a count back.   • 20/11/2016 ARMIDALE RIFLE CLUB NEWS Our 500 yard competition was held on Sunday the 20th November 2016, there were ten competitors. David Rose brought out four of the NEGS Girls target rifle team to shoot with us on our Hexta electronic targets. This will be a regular event as the electronic targets store all shooters data and will provide an excellent training tool for the individual shooters. The winner of the NEGS target rifle team was Alex Patten with a top score of 97.6. Alex also shot a possible score 50/50 in the second stage, well done Alex. Five of our club members also competed in the 500 yard event. In F-Class Standard there was a great tussle between Ian and Derry, it came down to the last shot with Derry winning by one point with a top score of 118.12. Our next competition will be 600 yards on Sunday the 8th January 2017. Our return three monthly competition with Grafton is scheduled for Saturday the 18th February 2017. It was a good day on Sunday with 10 competitors competing (3 Target Rifle & 7 FCS). The weather was hot, the target sensors recorded 39C and as usual mirage with Quickly changing winds. The range was 300 yards with one stage only. In Target Rifle the honors of the day went to Isabelle Cameron with a possible score 50/50.3. In FCS David Willis won with a score of 59.4. In Target Rifle we had three competitors. Both 700 yard stages had very strong winds with a slight mirage and patches of rain. In F-Class Standard Brett Chittick won with a score of 111.5. The Target Rifle competitors totalled 21and F-Class Standard 4 plus F-Open 1. Tom Southwell was the winner in Target Rifle with a very impressive double possible 50/50.4 and 50/50.4 totalling 100/100/.8.David Rose scored a possible in the second stage 50/50.6 followed by Sam Cannington 50/50.3. well done to all of them. The start of the day was wet and cold with chilly winds requiring 6 points right then dancing a merry jig. Mid afternoon stoped raining but alas the wind was more determined to get the better of us, which it did. In F-Class standard A Grade Derry won with a score of 111.6.   • 09/07/2017 On Sunday the 9th July 2017 Armidale Rifle Club held their 500 yard match. We only had four members competing two F-Class Standard and two F-Class Open. A 4MPH wind with mirage made things tricky. In F-Class Open, Adam Martin put in a magnificent effort, scoring a possible 60/60 with 6 in the first stage, and 59 with 6 in the second stage. He comfortably won with a top score of 119.12. In F-Class Standard B grade Ian Moffat won with a top score of 115.8. Ian also won the handy cap with a score of 124.4/8.   • 16/07/2017 Our 600 yard match held on Sunday 16th July 2017 was quite a good day except for a tricky little wind with an occasional changing mirage. We had three members and two visitors today, Bonnie Erskine and Adam Smith. They both had a great time with Bonnie taking out the F-Class Standard B grade with a score of 108.7, well done Bonnie. We all hope to see them again soon. In F-Class Open Derry scored a possible 60/60 with 4 and won with a total score of 116.6. The day was quite pleasant with changing wind directions and velocity. A sneaky mirage was present. We had a mix of Target Rifle (1), FTR (1), F-Class Standard (5) and F-Class Open (1).It was a great day with little wind picking up on the second stage. There were some good scores with two possibles, David Rose target Rifle 50/50 with 8/10. Derry scored a possible 60/60 with 10/10. In Target Rifle David Rose won with a score of 94.12.   • 06/08/2017 On Sunday the 8th August 2017 Armidale Rifle Club held their 500 yard competition. There were 12 competitors, 1 Target Rifle,8 F-Standard and 3 F/O. There was a very choppy wind with a hint of mirage. F-Class Standard, was won by Ian Moffatt scoring 115.8. There were two possibles David Rose Target Rifle with 50.3 in the second stage. David went on to win Target Rifle with a score of 98.5. Derry Crisp scored 60.5 in the first stage of F/O. Derry was offered a challenge for his second stage by using Matt and Mitch Foster’s rifle. Derry came unstuck very quickly with Mitch Foster winning F/O with a score of 115.7. Courtney Innes and her brother Jeremy went head to head with Courtney ending up 2 points in front. Competitors suffered from a very strong and tough mirage coupled with a sneaky breeze. Courtney Bennett won F-Class Standard with a score of 110.4. A great effort from our new member. It was cold with gusty winds and mirage. The conditions won the day with a lot of competitors getting low scores. In F-Class Standard David Grundy from Grafton won with a score of 105.4.   • 27/08/2017 On Sunday the 27th August 2017 the Armidale Rifle Club held their 300yard competition. In all there were nine competitors. It was a great day for everybody, even though the wind and mirage was constant. Bob Thrift achieved a double possible in F-Class Standard 60/60 with 5 and did it again in the second stage 60/60 with 5 to give him 120/120 with 10. Well done Bob. Luke Wratten also put in a splendid effort scoring 118/120 with 9. Don Foster scored 94.8 in Target Rifle. In F-Class Open Derry had a job to keep Matt Foster and his boys at bay. Derry finally beat Matt only by super centres. Derry scored 117.12 and Matt scored 117.5. F-Class Standard was won by Stuart Cleghorn scoring 112.8. There were two possibles scored for the day in F-Class Open, Mitch Foster with 60/60 with 7. Derry Crisp also scored 60/60 with 8. It was blowing a gale nonstop all day with 20+MPH wind needing 11-12 MOA right wind. The worst wind for as long as I can remember. Many points were lost from each competitor.   • 15/10/2017 On Sunday the 15th October 2017 the Armidale Rifle Club held their 300yard Westpac Helicopter fundraising event. In all there were twenty three participants. Target Rifle had 6 competitors, F-Class Standard 12 competitors and F-Open had 6 competitors. The conditions were very nasty, drizzling rain and ever changing gusty winds. There was a very close battle in every discipline. In Target Rifle Alex and Don battled it out with Alex the final winner by 3 supers. Alex scored 72.7. The ladies battled it out for the F-Class Standard honours both Sue and Courtney scored 89.4. Sue finally won by a count back in the last stage. In F-Open Jock and Derry fought it out with Derry finally winning by 2 super centres scoring 83.4.   • 22/10/2017 On Sunday the 22nd October 2017 Armidale Rifle Club held their 600 yard competition. Eight competitors took part. It was a great day except for a boiling mirage tricky little wind and the targets covered in cloud and unable to get a clear sight picture. In target rifle Isabelle shot 94.4. In FTR David shot 107.1. The winner in F-Class Standard was Bob with a score of 110.2. It was a great tussle in F-Class Open with Andrew scoring 115.7. Needless to say Andrew used Derry’s rifle.
